Even though I trade fx, the leverage part always kind of baffled me. Leverage determines how much margin you need to put up. For example in a std. account, 1 lot = $100,00, so a leverage of 100:1 in a std. account means $1,000 margin per lot. On a mini a lot is $10,000, so leverage of 200:1 is $50 per lot.

Let’s break it down. Let’s say you have a $100,000 std. account with leverage of 100:1. Say as a rule, you only commit 5% of your acct. equity to a trade. So, on a $100k std. acct. you’d commit at most $5000. At 100:1 leverage (or $1000 per lot), that’s 5 lots you can trade. On a std. acct. 1 Pip = $10, so on a 50 Pip move you have 50 Pips x $10/pip x 5 lots = $2500 or a 50% return on the trade.

On a mini account of say $10k, a 5% commitment would be $500. With 200:1 leverage (or $50 per lot), you can margin 10 lots. In a mini account 1 Pip = $1, so a 50 Pip move is 50 Pips x $1 per pip x 10 lots = $500 or a 100% return on the trade. Even though the $$$ profit is smaller ($2500 std. vs. $500 mini), the percentage return is greater (50% std. vs. 100% mini). So in a nutshell, the percentage return is higher. On thing you must remember $10/Pip on a std. or $1/Pip on a mini only applies to a currency pair that the U.S. dollar is in and only in the case where the USD is the quoted currency, such as the GBP/USD, EUR/USD, etc. (The first currency listed in the pair is the base currency and the second is the quoted currency). Where the dollar is the base currency, the dollar value per Pip is based on exchange rates.

Let’s take another example. between 11/17 and 12/1, the GBP/USD moved 928 Pips. So let’s say you bought the Cable (GBP) using the above account sizes and leverage with committing 5% of the account equity to the trade. On the std. account, 5% is $5000 with $1000 per lot margin would give you 5 lots. At 928 Pips, you would make $46,400, or 828% return on margin (46.4% increase in account equity). On a mini account, its’ $500 with $50 per lot margin or 10 lots. A 928 pip move is $9,280, or 1,756% return on margin (92.8% increase in account equity). In other words, the dollar returns were higher on the std. account, but the percentage returns were higher on the mini account.

But beware, the higher leverage works both ways. Hope this helps.

When looking for a brokerage firm to trade forex, you look at 3 things: commissions, service and execution. Regardless what any dealer or broker says, the spread charged on your currency trade is a commission, period. Most firms charge around 2-3 pips a trade, although your trading volume may make you eligible for a discount. Other firms will charge an additional commission, usually stated in $$/ round-turn.

Service entails the reasearch, education, technical assistance and trading. It’s important to consider the tools to which a firm gives you access to make your trades, since it’s these tools that will allow you to make your trading decisions. Most products offered by firms include research and predictions, but understand that this is only one part of your investment. Once you’re in a trade, it’s essential to know how to manage your risk, so look for firms that stress money management and risk management in addition to predictive systems.

Execution is the heart of currency trading. Firms operate thru dealers since a centralized exchange doesn’t exist. It’s important to know that your brokerage is operating thru a dealing desk, where the clearing firm may be taking positions opposite you in the market. This can make it difficult for you to profit since it is they that determine when you can enter or exit a trade. It’s also important that you track slippage, where your broker or even the dealer are consistently offering a price that is higher or lower than the published bid or ask.

I don’t make a particular recommendation since every trader has a their own preference in terms of the commissions, service and execution they demand. If you’re searching for a brokerage, be aware of the rules of the game first, so that you’ll have a better understanding when negotiating to open an account.

Back in the mid 1990′s, there were a lot of so called chop shop brokerage firms around. These firms had reputations for promoting companies that were not quality companies. In other words, junk companies, barely worth anything. They bought these stocks for their clients with the hope of making big commissions. Think, an off shoot of Boiler Room. These chop shop firms could pump these small junk company stocks astronomically, unloading to unsuspecting investors, usually at the highs. Most traders on Wall Street knew who the chop shops were and knew which stocks they were pumping. This allowed the top trading firms to recognize which stocks would not stay up once the bids were pulled. The key was to begin shorting these stocks as the investors were buying at the highs. It was almost a game on Wall Street for certain firms to pick the tops and ride them down. As soon as one of these chop shops came out with a new stock and it ran up on hype, we could just pile on and drive it back down. With no fundamentals behind the companies, they would crumble. In addition, as a market maker, I had a huge amount of money to utilize. The other market makers and I could pummel the stock, driving it into the ground as sellers dumped left and right. Our reputation grew with leaps and bounds. We became known as the firm that could spot these pumped plays as we would drive them into the ground making millions. Whenever we went on the offer, meaning that we wanted to sell/short the stock, our phones would ring off the hook from firms all over Wall Street. They would ask us what we knew about the stock, if we had any specific information. Our reputation grew to where other Wall Street firms would see us on the offer of a stock and just assume we were shorting it. They would follow and push it down for us. In reality, this made our job even easier. At this point, we had the best reputation on Wall Street for short sellers. We would even hear stories about chop shop brokers who would panic as soon as they saw us on the offer of their stocks they were pushing.

With our reputation for being short sellers came major recognition. In 1999, Forbes Magazine contacted our firm to particulate in their annual stock picking contest. They wanted us to give them a stock that would be a short with huge downside. I had the honor of choosing the stock for the Forbes contest. After doing a lot of research, I decided to pick a stock called FOR KIDZ ENTERTAIMENT (KIDZ). It was the hot stock at the time. They were the makers of the Pokemon cards. This was all the craze with the kids. The stock had jumped recently and as an outgoing fad, could not sustain its valuation. After picking it, the stock came tumbling down, crashing. That pick landed my firm as the winner of the contest and I was mentioned. The following year Forbes came back and asked us for another pick. Again, I chose a fad stock that the individual investor gets caught up in but never stays up. This time I chose Krispy Kreme Donuts. This once again was a craze for a short amount of time, but let’s face it, it is just a donut. The stock came tumbling down, my firm again on top of the calls. Our reputation only grew from there.

A lot has changed since then. Back in the 90′s, everyone knew each other. Each firm on the level II had a symbol. You knew who the buyers were and who the shorters were. Now everything is done by ECN’S (electronic communications network). With this network it is now impossible to know if the buyer/seller has 100 shares or 100,000 shares to trade. The one thing that has not changed and will never change is the greed and fear. This will always rule the market and will always remain the same.

When I first started hearing about this new software one thing that catch my attention was the fact that one of the beta testers (which pulled 29% in a month) was a well known contributor of the Forex Peace Army, which is one of the few forex communities where you can find a great deal of honest and unbiased information about almost anything forex related.

4.- This is a scalping software and it has been designed to take small profits frequently and consistently on a daily basis (that is why the selected broker is ideal for .

5.- The price for new Evolution software is $599 (some people say at some blogs and websites that it is “around” that figure, but it is not “around” that figure, it is $599).

6.- The software is backed by a 60 day money-back guarantee period, which means that it can be easily enforced by any unsatisfied trader since the payment is processed by Clickbank.

7.- The future updates to the software are included in your payment.

8.- The IvyBot Evolution is a stand alone product. Swiss Dukascopy brokerage is in no way associated with the software and therefore there will be no support from them regarding the installation or use of the software.

If you really want to trade FX, try the CME. The futures are pretty heavily regulated by the government, unlike spot trading, which is mostly a bunch of bucket shops trying to run small investors out of their money, in my opinion.

MACD gives the best results and it is easy to use as well. If the MACD line crosses the signal line it means that it’s good time for entry in the direction the MACD line were going. But remember to look for a short trade if MACD line falls below signal line and if it rises above signal line just go along. Now assuming that the price of the currency pair breaks above resistance or below support after the MACD crosses the signal line, then it would be considered as a signal of a big move indeed happening. Both the upward and downward crosses are explained in the diagram above.

Why wouldn’t MACD work in a range bound market? The problem is that in a range bound market, if you base your market entry points only on the MACD then by the time the indicator catches up to the current price, the price may have risen or fallen terribly to such an extent that making a profitable trade would be near impossible.

The Euro was down on Wednesday as investors continued to price in the likelihood of an interest rate cut from both the European Central Bank and the Bank of England alt on today. The European Central Bank is expected to cut its core rate by half a percentage point to 1.5 percent, and the Bank of England is expected to lower its rate to 0.5 percent on Thursday, also by half a percentage point. Lower interest rates can weaken a currency as investors move funds to where they earn better returns elsewhere.

At 5PM GMT, the Euro was flat versus the dollar at 1.2573, down 1% versus the CAD at 1.61, and up slightly to the Swiss Franc at 1.4796.
